Make the Amazing JetBlue and Virgin America Promo Even Sweeter

Much has been written about the truly amazing promotion that JetBlue launched where they will match your Virgin America mileage balance via the tiers shown below. Funny enough given they aren’t actually involved in this promo, in order to maximize the promotion, many who don’t already have large Virgin America balances are turning to the Starwood Preferred Guest program to transfer in ‘miles’.

Because of the 5,000 point bonus for every 20,000 points transferred from SPG into Virgin America, you can transfer just 40,001 SPG points into Virgin America and have that become the 50,001 Virgin America Elevate points you need to match to 75,000 JetBlue points (assuming you meet all the criteria and take the required round trip flight).

That can be a great deal for the reasons detailed out in this post where I broke down the value a bit more, but you can potentially make the deal even sweeter if you are also in the market for a five day stay at a SPG Category 3 or 4 hotel.

SPG Nights and Flights packages are pretty much always a sweet deal if you want to have a five night stay in a Category 3 or 4 SPG hotel since for 60,000 or 70,000 SPG points respectively you not only get five hotel award nights, but also 50,000 airline miles in one of many airline programs, including Virgin America.

You don’t have to use your airline miles for the same trip as the five hotel award nights, you can use them whenever and however you wish. Assuming you already had at least one Virgin America point in your account (or transferred it in elsewhere), you could get not only five SPG hotel award nights, but also 50,000 Virgin America points and 75,000 JetBlue points for as few as 60,000 SPG points via stacking Nights and Flights with the JetBlue promo.

To get your ideas flowing, examples of Category 4 SPG Hotels include the Walt Disney World Dolphin, Sheraton Mountain Vista Villas, Avon / Vail Valley, Sheraton Mountain Vista Villas, Avon / Vail Valley, The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club, and the Le Méridien Vienna. To book a Nights and Flights package you need to call SPG (general number 1-888-625-4988).

If you aren’t quite to the 60,000 or 70,000 point SPG threshold needed to take advantage of Nights and Flights remember you can purchase SPG points right now with a 30% discount through July 1st or you can combine SPG points for free with someone else who resides at your address (and has had the same address on file at least 30 days).

Edit to add: While the above paragraph is all true, I don’t think there is enough time left before the July 4 cut-off for the JetBlue promo to actually get all of that to happen since none of this is instant.

To break it down one more time, if you wanted to stay five nights in the Westin Puntacana shown above or any of the other SPG Category 4 properties you could spend 70,000 SPG points via Nights and Flights and end up with a five night hotel stay, 50,000 Virgin America miles from the Nights and Flights transfer, and 75,000 JetBlue points via the current JetBlue promo (assuming you had or obtained 1 more Virgin America mile and met the other promo criteria). That is a seriously a “deal of the year” sort of situation for just 60,000 or 70,000 SPG points if those parameters work for you.

I’d love to hear from someone who was able to stack these opportunities to come out on top of a seriously amazing deal!

    • Dan, that I can’t say for sure. I’ve been hearing “about a day” for SPG to Virgin America point transfers so I don’t think it is necessarily too late but I certainly wouldn’t wait a minute more.

  1. Hi All. I just wanted to report that I did successfully maximize the Jet Blue points match promo in just the way you described. I used 70k SPG nights & flights points for a 2017 Cat 4 Starwood stay & transferred the airline portion to Virgin America Elevate. It took just under 24 hours to get the points into my Elevate account. I still needed at least 1 more point & I couldn’t do another SPG transfer for 24 hours, so I decided to do an instant transfer of 1000 Amex MR points which yielded 500 pts in VA Elevate. I sent my screenshot showing 50,500 points to Jet Blue & I’ve been approved for the points match promo. Now I must book a Jet Blue round trip before their sale ends tonight. Whew! Great promo!

    • You are right – the SPG 30% bonus points sale ends July 1, but the JetBlue promo submission doesn’t end until July 4. All fixed. 😉

  2. I sent my pointsmatch to Jetblue on Saturday and again on Monday and still haven’t heard back. Has anyone else experienced this. Will calling Jetblue help? I’m eager to buy my RT Jetblue ticket ASAP. Thanks!

    • Calling Jet Blue & stressing that I needed the match BEFORE buying my tickets helped me! I did have to emphasize that time was of the essence.

  3. Hi Mommy Points, do you know if I have to book on JetBlue’s website, or can I use Kayak/Chase’s Rewards portal?
