If you like good deals on name brand clothes, shoes, etc. then you probably already have the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on your radar. The public version of the sale just kicked off today, and I know we have snagged a few items for next summer and this upcoming winter (and our upcoming Scotland trip where it is cool now!) at pretty good discounts. I know this isn’t exactly travel specific topic, but I can tell you that items like my Frye boots, Patagonia jackets, and Splendid leggings travel with me regularly and hold up against the abuse I put them through on the road.

If you want to shop items like that and more while they are on sale, then here is how to save more on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale….

  1. Shop now. The thing I wanted the most was already sold out in my size before I could hit the checkout button.
  2. Go through Ebates to make your purchase. Nordstrom is sadly not in most of the online miles, points, and cash back shopping portals but they are awarding 6% cash back via Ebates, so don’t leave that easy money on the table.
  3. Pay with a Nordstrom gift card purchased at 5x with an Ink Plus at an office supply store or similar. Or, pay with a credit card that allows you to easily price match if the price drops further at Nordstrom or another retailer in the near future.
  4. Earn or use Nordstrom Rewards. You don’t have to have a Nordstrom credit or debit card anymore in order to earn Nordstrom Rewards, so be sure to sign-up before placing your next Nordstrom purchase.

  1. i think in the past i was able to get gift cards at office max then use them on ebates and the like to further get cashback, now that seems to have gone away

  2. Nordstrom is by far my favorite department store and I always take advantage of their Anniversary Sale to get new clothes that I wear at work (pants, shirts, sport jackets, etc..). The big thing to take advantage of this event is to have the Nordstrom card. My wife got it two years ago since with their card you have early access to the sale before the general public. Thus, early this week I took advantage of that. I first logged into my Nordstrom account and it asked me to enter my Nordstrom card number to give me access to the sale. Once I did that I had access to all the items and was able to buy all I wanted. Interesting enough at the check out it gave me the option to use any credit card I wanted to buy those items. In the last 2 years you could only pay using the Nordstrom card during the early access sale. I then went to the store close to my work and bought another item. At the check out the lady asked for my Nordstrom card (I am an authorized user of my wife’s account) and then she said I had to pay with the Nordstrom card. I told them that I had just purchased items online and I was allowed to use any card and she said the rules for store purchase were different. The discounts do not apply to all items but they have several high end brands on sale and the savings are huge. Also, Nordstrom has the best return policy you can get allowing to you to return at any time.

  3. Can you explain more about Point 4 – You don’t need to charge it to the Nordstrom Visa to earn reward points? So If we use a Gift Card to Pay for it – will those charges still count to earn Rewards and Also for Tier 2/3/4 credits (which get you free alterations, etc.?) How would Nordstrom keep track in those instances. This would be HUGE. Great Post – look forward if you are able to shed more light here.

  4. Once you decide what you are going to buy, buy a Nordstrom gift card via United’s MPX app. 2miles for every dollar (plus a 25 percent bonus if the account’s hooked to a Chase UAL card).
