The Southwest Companion Pass is getting both more tempting and more valuable for those who like to vacation in the Caribbean as Southwest now has another popular destination for sale using dollars or Southwest Rapid Reward points!

Use Southwest Points to Fly to Grand Cayman!

Seats are now for sale from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Cayman for Southwest flights beginning June 4, 2017! Grand Cayman is 100% on my short list of places to hopefully visit with my family soon!

As you probably know, Grand Cayman is home to the iconic crystal blue waters of Seven Mile Beach, as well as several points friendly and/or elite status friendly hotels such as the Westin Grand Cayman, Holiday Inn Resort Grand Cayman, and the new Kimpton Seafire Resort.

Thus far I wasn’t able to get any connecting Southwest flights originating in others cities beyond Fort Lauderdale to work, but you can book ticketsdirectly from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Cayman. I assume that is just a matter of time before you can book flights from other Southwest cities as well.

Prices to Grand Cayman thus far start at about $89 each way or 4,320 Southwest points + taxes/fees from Fort Lauderdale.

I already have Grand Cayman penciled in for a spring break trip in 2018, but I would love a good excuse to get there sooner. Anyone else have Grand Cayman on their wish list – especially now that Southwest will be able to get you there beginning in June 2017?!

  1. I’m planning to go this year while I have the companion pass. Only problem is that right now the flights from Houston don’t match up to the current time of the one daily flight from FLL to GCM. Oh well, just might have to spend a weekend in Miami on my way to the island if the schedules don’t change!

  2. At the end of our flight on SW to aruba a week ago, the flight attendants were promoting their new carribean routes, and then mentioned Hawaii was coming soon. Have you heard any news on this lately?

  3. Heading to GC in March for SB with our 3 kids. Staying at the Westin booked just before they moved up a category. Awesome to know WN will fly there soon!

  4. If/when you make it there, the girls would *love* the turtle farm. Get the full blown “Turtle Adventure Tour” so you can actually swim with the turtles and a nice collection of fish.

  5. We spent 6 days in December in Grand Cayman. We went to a VRBO in Bodden Town and loved it. (Twice visited SMB just wanted something different) Grand Cayman never disappoints.

  6. Flights from FLL to GCM can now be booked for only 2160 RR points + $5.60 or $59 one way.

However, the cheapest return flights will cost 2160 RR points + $84.19 or $133.

I guess they figure you have to get home, so they up charge you on the way back! LOL!
