Amex just launched a brand new credit card, and with it we have a new front-runner in the “which card is best for everyday spending” competition. The brand spanking new Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express is a card you absolutely want to know about as is raises the stakes in terms of everyday spending.

The new Blue Business Plus Credit Card offers 2X Membership Rewards points per dollar on the first $50,000 in eligible purchases each calendar year, then 1X points thereafter. Not only that, but according to the press release these are transferable Membership Reward points you can transfer to Delta, British Airways, Singapore, ANA, and all of the other Membership Rewards transfer partners.

There is no other card that I know of that earns 2x transferrable award points on everyday spending without category restrictions, let alone one that does it without an annual fee. This is big time news and it absolutely raises the bar on what cards offer for everyday spending.

The 2x points feature alone makes this card newsworthy, but right now Amex is also offering a “special offer” of 20,000 Membership Reward points if you sign-up for the card and put $3,000 on it in the first three months. It is worth a mention that when I don’t use my own link to view this offer, but instead go directly to the Amex site, I don’t see any sign-up bonus associated this card. In other words, just be sure you are applying for the card via a link with the sign-up bonus attached if you decide to go for it.

This is a small business card, so not everyone will be interested, but it is worth noting that anecdotally even small small businesses can have success in getting approved by Amex. Amex small business cards also have some inherent advantages over personal cards such as the OPEN Discounts and not counting towards Chase 5/24 limits. If you have been looking for a go-to card for every day spending this may be your new front runner. If you personally value Membership Reward points in the neighborhood of 1.5 cents each, then earning 2x of them per dollar spent (on first $50k per year) comes to a 3% return which is very, very good on otherwise non-bonused spending.

What are your thoughts on this new card?

  1. Thanks, Summer. Would never have known about this card. Will happily use your link to apply! 2x MR, no annual fee, bonus MR points from reasonable spend and doesn’t count against Chase’s 5/24? Count me in!

  2. Fortunately I have almost no spend anymore that is not going towards minimum spend for bonuses, but 2x is great!

  3. I signed up for the Blue for Business in February and am getting 2X points for the first year, as well as 10 points for restaurants for 6 months. I guess I will cancel and sign up for this new card next February. No point in having 2 Amex getting the same thing.
