Delta Flash Sale: Last Day to Book Alaska and Hawaii for Less

My absolutely favorite time to use Delta miles is during their monthly flash sales. That’s how we booked our tickets to the Bahamas for fall break using miles we earned from cards like the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card, and it’s how I hope to use more of our Delta miles in the future. Now admittedly there is some humor to their flash sale discounts since they don’t have an award chart with which to compare the discount prices to the regular prices, but thus far their flash sales really do seem to save miles over the normal bottom award pricing threshold.

This time their flash sale runs until 11:59 PM Eastern tonight (9/14/17), and offers round trip award flights to Hawaii from just 35,000 SkyMiles or to Alaska from just 20,000 SkyMiles for travel dates from January 8 – March 23, 2018.

The exact destination cities covered by the flash sale include:

Honolulu, HI (HNL)
Kahului, HI (OGG)
Kona, HI (KOA)
Lihue, HI (LIH)

Anchorage, AK (ANC)
Fairbanks, AK (FAI)

The regular minimum award price to Hawaii seems to be 45k miles per round trip and Alaska seems to be 25k miles per round trip. During this flash sale you can also book one-way awards for half of the discounted round trip price, so that means as low as 10,000 miles to/from Alaska and 17,500 miles to/from Hawaii.

As you probably can guess, award availability at the lowest prices is better for Alaska than Hawaii. From the cities I checked, I found lots of 20k round trip availability to Alaska, but only a smattering of 35k round trip flights to Hawaii, though they do exist.

While it would be insanely cold in Alaska in the winter, it really does seem like a fun idea to fly there for just 10,000 Delta SkyMiles! Were you able to lock in any discounted Delta award trips with this flash sale?
