Today is the big Southwest Airlines schedule extension day when the booking calendar goes from June 5, 2018, all the way until August 6, 2018. This is a fantastic day to lock something in for 2018 summer travel since you can always get some Rapid Reward points back if the award price drops, or you can even get a credit to use towards a future flight if the cash price drops and you rebook.
I’ve got a family award trip on Southwest booked for very early summer 2018 that I am hoping to bump until later in the summer if I can find award prices for roughly the same amount that I paid, so I’m even more excited about the Southwest schedule extension than normal.
However, they are having some technical difficulties, and the ability to book Southwest flights beyond June 5, 2018, is currently offline. According to their Twitter responses, they do expect to have it back online at some point in the near term, so keep checking back throughout the day if you are hoping to book a Southwest flight for next summer.
If you want to book a flight for travel on Southwest from August 7, 2018, onwards then don’t bother checking back with Southwest.com until February 8, 2018, when they plan to extend the schedule until September 28, 2018.
Are you trying to book a Southwest flight for travel next summer today?
