The rental car process can be one of the worst parts of family travel if you aren’t careful. There can be long lines, nowhere to safely contain tired and cranky children while you wait at the check-in desk, old cars that have seen better days, nasty and over-priced rental car safety seats, and even sneaky surprise fees and charges.

Sure your rental may have only cost you $9.99 per day at first, but in the end, you may owe a lot more than that, and you might have wasted tons of time and stress in the process. One way to avoid all of that is to rent via Silvercar. If you rent a car with Silvercar you may pay more than $9.99 per day, but you will also virtually guarantee that none of that will happen to you.

Silvercar rents only Audis A4s, they pick up and drop off at the terminal at some airports, they don’t charge big fees for refueling or using toll tags, car seats are free and of higher quality than via most rental outlets, there are no check-in desks or rental lines to wait in, the cars have WiFi and navigation, and the entire process is very sleek, efficient, and (almost) enjoyable.

We have used Silvercar several times for our trips to places like Denver, Phoenix, and Austin and have never regretted our decision to pay a bit more to get a lot more. My favorite moments were getting picked up at the terminal in Austin when I flew solo with my toddler (shown below) and getting dropped off at the airport in Phoenix while my then 5-year-old got in more of her afternoon nap.

Early Black Friday Deal: Silvercar Promo Code Saves 40% for All Customers

The good news for those like me who turn to Silvercar in order to streamline the rental car process is that they are currently offering a 40% discount for Silvercar rentals that occur from November 26 – December 20, 2017, using the promo code SILVERSALE! Silvercar routinely has discounts for new customers, but a 40% discount for existing customers is pretty rare.

Silvercar base rates are often in the $49 – $69+ per day range, but with this discount code that will drop to as low as about $30 per day, which can beat traditional rentals in some cases.

First-time renters could instead choose to use the code LOUNGEBUDDY to get a free day with a minimum two-day day rental. On top of that, on your first rental, you can also get a $25 Visa gift card by entering a referral code into your profile before making your first rental. My referral code is SHULL and thanks so much if you use it.

With the first-time renter discounts, even my very budget minded parents saved a ton of money over other options by enjoying Silvercar on a trip through Colorado.

Has your family used Silvercar for a more comfortable rental car experience? If you do, remember to use promo code SILVERSALE to save 40% until December 20, 2017!

  1. Gave up on them after a terrible experience at EWR. Well, first of all they say they are at EWR but actually they are not and you need to get a shuttle that takes forever to show up and them a long drive to their place. Then you get an Audi A4 with almost 50k miles, pretty beat up and with noises everywhere. When I returned the car I asked why the car was so bad and they said they were getting new ones and I should call in advance and they would hold a new one for me. I called next time and was told it was first come first serve and I would get whatever car was available at the time I got there. No tks!!!!!

  2. Agree with Santastico. Utility of this very much depends on the arrangement they have with the airport you are using. At DFW, you have to take the shuttle to the rental car center, then get picked up by silver car and go to their lot. 80% of the time (100% if you have status) it’s faster to use hertz, Avis, etc.–and generally cheaper.

Silver car is a convenience play. And we’ll worth the premium when they can meet you curbside with a car, and you can drop off curbside (without picking up a driver first). But otherwise, if I want a luxury car I’ll get it from Hertz for cheaper and quicker.

  3. Thought about giving them a second chance on a week long rent in Miami coming up. I have a reservation for a full size car with National which with my Executive status allows me to get whatever car is available in the Executive Aisle (last week I got a convertible BMW at LAX) for $337 all taxes and fees included. Looked for same dates on Silvercar and it come to $661. No thank you!!!!

      • No, the 40% was not available on my dates. Their daily rent for Miami was $99 before taxes and fees which is very high compared to the $49-$69 range you mentioned above.

        • Yeah that is higher than the normal price range that I usually see for Silvercar and Miami, it would be an easy no at that price for sure.
