I’m a big fan of the IHG Accelerate promotions even though I rarely actually use them myself. These individualized promotions can be pretty lucrative if you have some travel you can book with IHG and also get a little lucky with a good personalized offer.

The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express

The next IHG Accelerate promotion will run from January 1 – April 30, 2018, and I love that they have already announced the promo and valid dates so folks can make their early 2018 travel plans in advance. All of the IHG Accelerate offers will award a minimum of 30,000 bonus IHG points upon completion of all required tasks, but some offers are much, much larger than that.

I don’t typically have that many paid stays with IHG, so it isn’t surprising that my offer is on the simpler and smaller side.

With my IHG Accelerate promo I can earn a total of 43,000 bonus IHG points if I complete the following ‘tasks’ from January 1 – April 30, 2018:

  • Stay once get 1,000 bonus points
  • Stay 4 nights and earn 4,000 bonus points.
  • Book a Bonus Points Packages and earn 6,600 bonus points
  • Complete 3 of those 3 offers and earn an additional 28,400 bonus points

In addition to those tasks, there are also two additional tasks available including:

  • Apply for the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card and earn 2,000 bonus points
  • Stay once in January and get 1,000 bonus points

Ignoring the credit card bit for now, if I did one eligible (aka points earning) four-night IHG stay in January where I bought a bonus points package, then that would trigger everything but the credit card portion of the bonus and earn me 41,000 bonus IHG points that are worth a couple hundred dollars. There’s probably an IHG hotel out there that wouldn’t cost much more than that for a four-night stay, so it really is a very good bonus.

If I unexpectedly need four IHG nights between now and the end of April, I am all squared away since I registered for the promo today just in case. Since stays before you register don’t count, I recommend you go ahead and do the same. I don’t see me really adding four hotel nights to our travel schedule just for this promo, but you never know what the future holds.

How did your 2018 IHG Accelerate promo look? Will you be able to make use of it in early 2018?

  1. I would need 14 nights, a 4 night stay, and other a few tasks I won’t attempt. I’ll do one night in January with IHG credit card to get 5,500 points.

Then no more paid stays until I get a reasonable offer.

  2. Just checked mine out. One night stay gets me 1500, + staying at 2 Intercontinentals gets me 16,800, and if I do a weekend stay I get 6,000, + a stay in LA (3,600) equals a total 27,900 for me. I already have one night at Intercontinental booked for Vegas in a few weeks. I’ll use my free weekend night coupon from the Ambassador club for a weekend stay in LA in April, so it looks like I should hit this one pretty good. Oh plus if I book that April stay between 22 – 30, I’ll get another 2,000. Sweet!

  3. If I was strategic I could probably get a bonus 37k for 5 nights but it’s not that lucrative that I will go out of my way to stay at IHG. I don’t have any low hanging fruit from this promotion that will give me a decent amount of points for doing 1 or 2 tasks so I will probably do zero and see what comes around Q2.

  4. Just beware of the fine print. IHG focuses a lot on “getting to no” these days which is a horrible design flaw in the promo.

PWAC got caught by the fine print too:

They exclude certain things but you don’t find out until months after the fact because they advise you to wait 6-8 weeks for points to post, at which time the ability to make up has expired.

Sometimes there are date restrictions that should stop anyone from making a reservation now before the promo starts.

    Read carefully.

    • Very true! I got caught out with a points & cash stay for the present Accelerate promo that I booked in mid-August for an overnight in mid-October. If I had waited to book until after the promo began on Sept. 1, or canceled and re-booked after Sept. 1, all would have been fine. As it was, IHG disallowed the stay for the promo. That meant I had to book a nearby useless 1 night P&C stay at the cheapest rate I could find (5,000 pts. & $40), check-in, go to the room very briefly, and then leave. Mission accomplished, Accelerate completed.
