As I’m sure you know, the Winter Olympics recently kicked off in South Korea and Team USA has already started to win some medals! For those in the points world, you should be extra excited every time Team USA wins a medal, because the sign-up bonus on the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa gets a little sweeter. Not an affiliate link – just a deal you should know about.

In addition to the 25,000 bonus points you can earn after spending $2,000 in the first four months, a limited time special Olympics additional bonus of 500 points for each Team USA Gold, 250 points for each Silver, and 100 points for each Bronze medal will be added to your points totals.

This special Olympics bonus is available between 2/5/2018 and 3/10/2018 as long as you make your first purchase by 4/6/2018. The Olympics just started, but Team USA has already won two Gold medals, one Silver, and one Bronze for a current total of 1,350 additional points on top of the 25,000 after hitting the spending requirement.

If Team USA goes on to win the same number of medals they did at the Winter Games in Sochi four years ago, that would mean 7,450 total bonus points. Hopefully, they can do even better this time around and move that bonus upwards!

I used to have this card when they offered a similar Olympics bonus years ago, but since then they have changed how the points work. Instead of the tiered points redemption system they used to have where you wanted to only use points when the flight was right under $400 to get the maximum value, points are now worth 1.5 cents each towards booking travel. This means that the 25,000 bonus points are worth $375, and if 7,450 additional Olympic bonus points were added, that would be worth an additional $111.75 in travel.

The US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa gives you a $25 airline allowance towards baggage fees, in-flight food and drinks, or a seat upgrade on each airline award redemption. With the card you also get 12 GoGo In-flight WiFi passes each year, which is extremely valuable and worth well over $100 if you need to stay connected when you fly on a somewhat regular basis.

For everyday earning, you get 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores, or with the airlines – whichever one you spend the most with that billing cycle. You also get 2x points with most cell phone providers and on charitable donations and 1x elsewhere. The card has a $0 introductory annual fee the first 12 months, then $49 in subsequent years.

If you the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa is on your rewards card short list and you want to get the biggest sign-up bonus possible, then keep an eye on the Team USA medal count over the next couple of weeks and apply by March 10th to get in on the increased Olympics bonus!
