The Chase Freedom is one of my absolutely favorite no annual fee rewards credit cards. It has rotating 5x bonus categories that allow cardholders to earn 5x points per dollar charged on up to $1,500 in charges each quarter, assuming you activate the bonus categories in time. Tomorrow (March 14th) is the deadline to activate the first quarter 5x bonuses of Gas Stations, Internet/Cable/Phone Services, and mobile payment services including Chase Pay, Android Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.
As long as you activate the bonus categories in time, they will then be retroactive back to the beginning of the quarter on January 1, 2018. On March 15th, you will be able to activate the just-announced 2018 second quarter Chase Freedom 5x bonus categories.
2018 Chase Freedom Second Quarter Bonus Categories:
- PayPal, which can be used online, on mobile or in-app across more than 18 million large, mid-sized and small businesses around the world
- Chase Pay using the app, online or in-store, at new merchants such as Shoprite and PriceRite, and online at Wal-Mart
- Grocery stores, including traditional brick-and-mortar grocers, retailers that sell food and online delivery services such as Peapod, Blue Apron, Whole Foods, Fresh Direct and many more
These are extremely family-friendly 5x bonus categories, so I am thrilled that so many of us will easily max out the bonuses this quarter. Grocery stores are an obviously family-friendly category, and tons of retailers accept PayPal and even the newer Chase Pay payments, so you can earn 5x in places like Best Buy, Walmart, PotBelly, Starbucks, ShopRite, and more. Remember that the points earned on the Chase Freedom can be transferred to Chase Ultimate Rewards hotel and airline partners such as United, Hyatt, Singapore, Southwest, and more if you also have a premium Ultimate Rewards credit card such as the Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred, etc.
Will your family be able to easily max out the new second quarter Chase Freedom 5x bonus categories that take effect on April 1, 2018?
