The United MileagePlus and Marriott Rewards loyalty programs have a relationship called RewardsPlus where you can enjoy reciprocal elite benefits, transfer miles/points back and forth at fair ratios, and more. Now they are highlighting their relationship and even taking it a step further with a promotion that will award double miles and points on the Marriott and United co-branded Chase cards when you use them to make purchases with the opposite business. This means the United credit cards will award you double the usual number of United miles when you have a Marriott charge and the Marriott credit cards will award you double Marriott points when you have eligible United charges on the card.
This promotion is open to all who have Marriott Rewards Premier consumer or business cards and those who have United Club or Explorer consumer or business cards as of 4/1/18, as long as you register by 4/15/18.
As long as you register, then from 3/15/18 – 4/15/18, you can earn 4x Marriott points per dollar when you charge United airline tickets purchased directly from United to your Marriott Rewards Premier Card! That is double the normal 2x the card awards on airline tickets purchased directly from the airline – just as a reminder, this card also awards 2x at car rental agencies and at restaurants. Do keep in mind that if you need the free checked bag benefit provided by having and using a United credit card for your ticket purchase, you probably want to put your United airfare charges on your United card regardless of this bonus.
Eligible Marriott charges put on the United Explorer cards during this time will award you 2x United miles per dollar and those put on the United Club Card will award you 3x United miles per dollar. If you have a United Club Card, getting 3x United miles for Marriott charges until April 15th is very good indeed.
I normally put Marriott charges on my Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card to earn 2x SPG points per dollar, but 3x United miles per dollar would rank right neck and neck to 2x SPG points.
