After sharing the list of American Airlines Discounted Mileage Awards for June and July and the new Southwest nationwide ‘Sale of the Summer’, the accidental theme of the week around here apparently became saving miles on booking last-minute summer travel.

The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN

I can’t say this was planned, but it sounds like the perfect family travel focus topic for mid-May. Today it is United Airlines’ turn to continue on that theme and offer mileage savings of up to 25% for those looking to fly off to some ‘cooler’ destinations in June including:

  • Aspen, CO (ASE)
  • Bozeman, MT (BZN)
  • Vail/Eagle, CO (EGE)
  • Gunnison, CO (GUC)
  • Hayden, CO (HDN)
  • Jackson, WY (JAC)
  • Montrose, CO (MTJ)

This discount requires booking by May 21, 2018, and traveling between June 9, 2018, and June 27, 2018. If you have United elite status or a United MileagePlus credit card, you will save 25% on economy saver awards to these destinations. This drops a regular 25,000 mile round trip saver award to 18,750 miles and a 20,000 round trip saver award on flights less than 700 miles to just 15,000 miles plus taxes.

If you do not have United elite status or a co-branded card, the discount still works, you just save 20% instead of 25%. I tested this from my daughter’s account with no status or credit cards and she could book the regular 25,000-mile saver awards for 20,000 miles and the short-haul 20,000-mile saver awards for 16,000 total miles.

I know beach trips get the bulk of the attention during the summer, but coming from someone who lives in 100-degree heat, the idea of heading to the mountains is a fantastic one. We had a great summer trip to Beaver Creek a few years ago and I absolutely adore Jackson Hole and the surrounding area of the Tetons, Yellowstone, and more.

There are no special code or booking links required to take advantage of this 25% discount on United saver awards to select cities. Just be sure you are logged into a MileagePlus account with United elite status or a co-branded credit card to get the full 25% discount and book your awards by May 21, 2018!

  1. I love living in the western US! Y’all should come out and visit, enjoy the mtns and the high desert valleys. Grab a car and explore a little, get out of the more urban areas (yes, even Jackson Hole). If hiking isn’t for you there are a lot of good roads in the Colorado Rockies that nearly climb entire mts, get out and explore! If you plan to visit a National Park you’d do well to go in shoulder seasons, especially Zion and Arches.

    • Yes, all of that sounds lovely. I’ve never regretted a single trip out that direction…and neither have my parents who make it to those sort of spots many times a year.
