Southwest just launched one of their big nationwide sales that drops the price to travel as low as $49 or 2,524 Rapid Reward points each way. What is unique about this sale is that it is even valid for summer travel dates beginning on June 5, 2018, and running into the fall on October 31, 2018.
You can see which routes are included in this sale here. In general, your shorter routes will be on the cheaper end of the price spectrum and the longer routes will be pricier. As is usual with these sales, not every day or flight is discounted to these prices, so you will probably want to use a flexible date calendar to spot the cheapest dates to travel. You will typically find the cheapest dates to fly on nonstop flights operated on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
You can view the lowest fares in dollars or points, and since the points price is tied to the cash selling price, you will find some points bargains such as the 2,524 flights between Houston and New Orleans that are shown below!
If you have a Southwest Companion Pass, then two people can fly for the sale price, plus the cost of taxes. Airfare deals in the middle of the summer can be tough to come by, so I’m really excited that Southwest is giving families a chance to put together a ‘last minute’ affordable summer vacation. If you need a few more Southwest points to book the flights you want, remember they transfer in 1:1 from Chase Ultimate Rewards and cards such as the Sapphire Preferred. Learn more
While this sale runs until Friday, I would book as soon as you find something you like as availability will decrease as the sale goes on. If you hope to score a deal on another airline, be on the lookout this week as it is common for other airlines to match these Southwest fare sales. I’m already seeing some price matching on United, but unfortunately, the matched prices I have seen are in Basic Economy, though I only tested a few routes.
Will your family be jumping on this ‘Southwest Sale of the Summer’ to fly from $49 or 2,524 points each way?
