Kimpton is the playful and sociable brand within IHG, and a couple of times per year, it offers freebies to guests checking in who know a few secret words.

To kick off the post-Thanksgiving holiday blues, a brand-new Kimpton secret password has returned: "chalet all day."

Saying those magic words from Dec. 1, 2023, through Feb. 29, 2024, can unlock all kinds of goodies, such as a treat from a prize chest, a free bottle of wine, a complimentary in-room movie or a room upgrade. TPG readers have had some pretty great success with prior Kimpton secret passwords.

My family has used the secret password several times. When we used it at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, each kiddo got to spin the prize wheel to win a free in-room movie and snacks.

Other Kimpton social password surprises we have heard of in the past include:

  • A bottle of wine
  • Comped parking
  • A branded coffee mug
  • Two drinks at the on-site bar
  • Doubled Raid the Bar credit
  • A room upgrade
  • A $30 dining credit
  • Breakfast vouchers
  • A hot chocolate kit
  • An in-room movie
  • Free IHG One Rewards points

The secret password is available to anyone who knows it. Remember that IHG One Rewards Platinum and Diamond Elite members can also take advantage of the Raid the Bar benefit. With it, Platinum Elite members receive a $10 credit, and Diamond Elite members receive a $20 credit to use on the Kimpton in-room minibar, hotel bar or restaurant.

On par with the "chalet all day" password theme, guests can find winter chalet installations in select hotel lobbies across the IHG brand, including at Kimpton, Hotel Indigo and InterContinental properties.

For example, specific Kimpton properties — including the Kimpton Monaco Salt Lake City, the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel and the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia — will offer a Cozy Chalet Getaway package. The package comes with a Frette robe, a blanket, fuzzy socks, two complimentary warm winter beverages, a hot chocolate kit, a dessert, books, puzzles and board games. The Kimpton Marlowe Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will even have a Christmas-themed pop-up cocktail bar through Christmas Eve.

If you don't have status with IHG and are looking for a quick way to get there while earning points to plan your next Kimpton stay, consider applying for the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card. With this card, you'll earn 140,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. You'll also receive automatic IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status and the chance to raid the bar on basically every Kimpton stay.

Know, though, that you don't need any elite status or specific credit card to take advantage of Kimpton's latest secret password. Just say "chalet all day" at your next Kimpton check-in to see what sort of magic you unlock.
