See if You Can Save Up To $100 on Amazon Using One Amex Membership Reward Point

Update: This promo is now working for those who have already used it, but it does not seem to be working on Amazon gift cards anymore. It is still working on other gift cards.

Amazon is ramping up to their annual Prime Day with some early deals, and one of them is really good! Right now you can save up to $100 on Amazon using as few as one Amex Membership Reward point if your account is included in this promotion, which you can check here. With this promo you save 20% on orders sold by Amazon if you use one Amex Membership Reward point from cards such as The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card or The Platinum Card®. This includes third party gift cards such as Whole Foods, Starbucks, Nordstrom, Southwest Airlines, and plenty more!

It also worked for me on Amazon gift cards when I had another third party gift card of $100+ in my cart. It does not seem to work on Amazon gift cards without another $100+ of eligible items in your cart.

If you don’t need gift cards, you could of course pick up real items sold by Amazon instead. The terms indicate that the promotion ends when Amazon elects to end the promotion, so I’d get on this ASAP if you know what you want. You will have to be sure to pay with an Amex credit card that earns Membership Rewards and select at least one Membership Reward point to use towards the purchase in order to get the discount. Even though it defaulted on my account to paying exclusively with points, I would be sure and change that and only use one point since the rate of return for using Amex points to pay at Amazon is not typically very great. That said, I’ll happily trade one Amex Membership Reward point to save 20% on Amazon, up to $100!

Below is an example of how the promotion can easily save you 20% ($40) on a $200 Whole Foods gift card.

  1. Thanks! It took $30 off of my Whole Foods $100 gift card when I used only 1 AMEX MR point to pay. This ALMOST makes Whole Foods prices competitive, ha!

  2. Worked for me. Love getting 20% off of GCs that I use all the time! Thanks for posting. (Note, I tried multiple orders with multiple Amex cards. No dice! But, hey, 1x saving 20% off of $500 works for me!)

  3. Thanks so much for letting us know about this awesome deal. $200 Southwest and $300 Amazon gift cards and I only paid $399.

  4. I was able to max out this offer also!
I’m on my wife’s Prime account. After I did the offer she try and got the “not eligible “ message. I assume that’s because we are both on the same account? I’m not complaining though…$100 savings is great.

  5. Hmmm, mine says 20% off, but its actually only giving me 10% off. Not sure what is going on with Amazon’s math…. I’m only getting $50 off on a $500 purchase.

  6. Jumped on this too, and per OMAAT’s reminder we walked over to Office Max (yes, I have one two blocks away) and got Amazon gift cards with my Chase Ink to pay. $400 + 1 amex point each, me and Mrs. Former Seattle = Airbnb, Southwest, and a couple smaller ones for Whole Foods and Lyft. Plus the 4000 Chase points from the Ink spend.

  7. Hi…I can’t seem to get the 20% with my items. I added Airbnb, Uber, Wholefoods, and Amazon E gift cards but the 20% won’t appear. My AMEX Platinum and rewards account is linked. Does anyone have similar issues?

  8. I can’t seem to get the 20% with my items. I added Airbnb, Uber, Wholefoods, and Amazon E gift cards but the 20% won’t appear. My AMEX Platinum and rewards account is linked. Does anyone have similar issues?

    • Having clicked through the link to activate the deal in your account, at checkout you must make your method of payment the Amex card, and then select to pay with points. The cart should refresh to show the discount. Then make that point amount $.01 for 1 point.

      • Be careful that if you select 1 point, then add a gift card to pay for the balance, when the gift card loads the Pay with Points selection will trip back to paying for the entire purchase with points. Almost got me.

    • I don’t think every single account is eligible, though it is widely available. Do you have an Amex Membership Rewards card linked?
