Other Airlines Matching Southwest Sale – Shop for Fall Travel Now

Just as it happened last year, other airlines are matching some prices and routes on the Southwest 72 hour $49/$99/$129/$149 sale that is valid for travel from August 26th – December 18th (other than Friday, Sundays, and subject to a few other blackouts listed here).  I have a few routes I have been closely watching for months on United that have now dropped as much as 50% from previous levels thanks to United matching the Southwest sale prices.  For example,…

(Try to) Book Holiday Flights – Southwest Schedule Open Through 1/5/14

Unlike some of the legacy airlines, Southwest doesn’t have a schedule that is constantly open for roughly 11 months out.  Instead, they open it up in phases for 8-9 months out at a time.  Just yesterday they opened their schedule through January 5, 2014.  This means you can now use points, credits, or cash to book holiday flights on Southwest.  This is great news for families that want to make plans to be together for the holidays…but there is a…

More AirTran Flights Now Bookable Via Southwest (Hurray Points and CP!)

I posted a little while back that a small number of routes on AirTran were bookable via the Southwest website, but some searching today revealed that there are now an increased number of AirTran flights bookable via Southwest.  This is not surprising given that the two airlines are merging, but it is still really great news for a number of reasons.  Three big reasons this is a noteworthy development are: You can use the Companion Pass for AirTran flights booked…

Limited AirTran Flights Now Bookable with Southwest Points/Companion Pass

Recently I saw an interesting thread on Flyertalk by JSteele that highlighted how certain flights operated by AirTran were now not only bookable on the Southwest website with Southwest points, but the Southwest Companion Passes could be used on those flights as well.  I have to admit I haven’t been following the AirTran and Southwest merger as closely as I should, but this definitely caught my eye. So far the code-sharing is very limited (Atlanta/Ft Lauderdale), but this could be…

Hyatt Card Spending Requirement Likely Increasing on Tuesday and New AirTran Card!

The Hyatt Visa is almost certainly on the verge of an increase from two free nights upon first purchase to two free nights after spending $1,000 in the first three months.  The offer directly from Chase is already displaying as $1,000 in spending requirement (thanks MMS!), and we have seen other Chase cards recently go from awarding the bonus on the first purchase, to awarding the sign-up bonus after spending $1,000, so it makes sense this card would do the…

One Day AirTran Sale

AirTran is having a one-day sale today, so I thought I would pass that info along in case there is a route discounted that might be of use to someone.  I didn’t see any “OMG” prices, but there are some discounted prices available for some city pairs.  As an example, from Houston, it seems that round trips to Branson ($106) and Washington Reagan ($236) were pretty decent deals.  Some of the other routes didn’t really appear to be any less…
