Trip Review: Inaugural United 787 Dreamliner Flight

I’ve been interested in the Dreamliner before I ever started writing Mommy Points. I can’t tell you when I first heard of the aircraft, but the name really stuck with me. The promises of a more efficient, quieter, roomier, and modern aircraft sounded, well, Dreamy (yes, I know that is cheesy). My hometown airline, Continental Airlines, ordered the Dreamliner 787 aircraft before they became United Airlines, so I presume that was probably another reason that I paid attention to any…

The New United Award Ticket Hold Policy

In the months leading up to Continental and United finalizing their merger, the two companies aligned many of their fees and policies.  However, they did not align all policies in advance, which left many of us guessing which policy would prevail post-merger: the Continental policy, or the United policy.  One of the areas in which the two airlines never shared the same policy was holding award tickets prior to purchase.  I love placing hold on award tickets.  It lets me…

Turn Hotel Points Into US Airways Dividend Miles With 50% Bonus!

As has already been posted on View From the Wing and One Mile at a Time, US Airways is running a special until 3/31 while you can get a 50% bonus on all hotel points transferred into the Dividend Miles program.  It should come as no surprise that this US Airways Grand Slam junkie really loves US Airways miles.  Especially for their 60,000 mile round-trip off-peak ticket to Europe in the Envoy Suite.  However, I also love that you can…

My Chase Continental OnePass Plus Card Already Converted to a United Card

As part of my daily routine this morning, I logged into my Chase account both to check credit card balances, and to see what points might have posted to various accounts.  I tried doing this yesterday, but the system was down for maintenance.  That maintenance might have been required in order to convert old Continental OnePass Plus cards to United MileagePlus Explorer cards, because I now show as having two United cards in my Chase accounts homepage.  I have the…

March 3rd: How Does Your United Account Look?

It’s official, today is March 3rd and we are now United.  Naturally, after putting on Cars 2, and getting the toddler (who never sleeps past 7AM, even on weekends) in bed with me, I had to log-on and see what my new United account looked like.  As you may have read yesterday, I advised that everyone take screen shots of both their United and Continental account, just in case.  Thank goodness, because currently only my Continental miles are displaying, and…

Suggestions for the Continental/United Merger

There are just a few hours left until my hometown airline is gone (at least in name).  While I hope that the transition is smooth and seamless, I totally agree with Gary from Free Frequent Flyer Miles when he posted this suggestion on Milepoint to save screen shots of your Continental and United mileage accounts today.  The chance you would ever need them is probably remote, but it takes 5 seconds to take screen shots, so it’s not a bad…

United Months of Miles Bonuses (Finally) Posting!

Oh boy, I think I might see pigs flying as I look out of our front window.  The United Months of Agony Miles bonus miles are finally starting to post.  This has to have been the biggest mess of a promo from 2011.  Heck, evidence of that is that we are still talking about getting miles from it and it is almost March of 2012!  On a positive note though, miles are posting.  Hallelujah!  The miles starting posting this afternoon,…

New Credit Card Added to Top Deals Page

Wanted to pass along that I added a new credit card to my Top 5 Credit Card Deals page.  Though admittedly the page has way more than five top deals – a renaming is probably in order.  The card to crack into the top deals spot today is the Chase Hyatt Visa.  This isn’t a new card, but recently the offer improved to award two free nights after first purchase.  That is huge for families that have trouble hitting minimum…

End of February Reminders (Elite Status, Continental Card, AirTran Membership Rewards, and more)

I know February is a short month, but dang did it ever fly by!  This is a busy time of year in the miles and points world since elite status with most programs runs through the end of February for the previous year.  On top of that, there are some other promotions and opportunities that are ending as the calendar turns to March, so here are a few reminders about things that end on February 29th. As I mentioned, unless…

Farewell to Continental Airlines (and the OnePass Plus Credit Card)

I’m actually sad that Continental Airlines will very soon be a part of airline history.  On March 3rd, the merger with United will be complete, and the name Continental Airlines will be one relegated to airline museums.  I’m sad about this because I grew up near Houston, Texas.  In fact, I still live near Houston.  Continental has been a big part of Houston for my entire life.  I went to school with kids whose dad’s flew planes for Continental.  I…
